“If you ain’t scared… you ain’t human.” ― James Dashner, The Maze Runner

on-the-road

I read this book a year ago or so, but I decided to listen the audiobook to see if my perception of it will be the same one or not…. And I can totally say that it is not the same.

If a book has secrets and keeps you at the edge of your chair, I will love it! And I read the book and I thought everybody in the maze were annoying, and I thought Tom had all the right to be mad. The way that I reacted to the paperback was completely different from the audio version. The reading experience was smooth and easy. One does not need to think too much or try to find any hidden clues while you read. As long as you remember the names and the previews happenings, you are good to go.

I totally believe that a text is alive because you react to it and it to you, and every time you read it something changes, and I can testify on this. I am not sure if it was the narrator, the character, or me, but Tom was so annoying. I would have totally locked him out the glade for him to face his doom. I rolled my eyes so many times that I was about to throw my phone out of the bus’ window. It was so frustrating! But it was everybody’s fault. Tom for his lack of patience and the gladers for this necessity to post pone the inevitable… (I have censored myself so many times writing this… some “F” word here and there. But let’s keep it… classy?)

The narrator… dude, what kind of British accent is that? Gosh! Newt was totally British… “bloody hell,” and he sounded like a cheap mix between Indian and me trying to sound British (it is terrible trust me…) It might be me being stereotypical (I hope not!) But if you say: heavy accent, bloody hell, and “nobody” can’t understand a word you say, I will expect something British and that includes Australian… but other than that, he was not that bad. 🙂

I still think that the whole trials idea and plot were just nonsensical… “Gentleman… you are a waste of money.”

I know what you mean about audiobooks being different than actually reading the text! But this series left me so unsatisfied! So many loose ends and terrible plot twists.
