“Just because something is beautiful doesn´t mean it´s good.” ― Alex Flinn ― Beastly

I selected the original cover of the book and the movie/book cover that I have. Why? To show once again the atrocities that Hollywood does or maybe not… It is more to do a comparison and contrast between the covers and even the book and movie.

I knew from the beginning what this book was some sort of fairytale, cover, cheesy story of love, and self-discovery. I must admit that I rolled my eyes a few times for a few clichés on the story. The story is not plausible, not for the magic part of it, but for the way some of the characters were described and developed. The main character is perfect because of his blue eyes, blond hair, and white smile… and… that makes him handsome? I do not think so, not because someone has those three characteristic make them perfect (At least that is why I think) Thanks to the movie, I can picture Alex Pettyfer as Kyle, and being honest, Alex is perfect and not just because he is blonde or has blue eyes. I can picture Lindy (dah almost linda which is pretty in Spanish) as she is, just a normal and simple girl. Not as Vanessa which is hot… but w.ever.

Even though the author focus so much on the looks and the money, I do not think this book is shallow and empty. This book is not complicated at all. The book is pretty (HA! Pun intended) much predictable and a bit boring. The archetype of the white flower and the white snow meaning the purity of the love that he must find. I like the constant allusions to literary works (The Hunch of Notre Dame, The Phantom of the Opera), which help to understand how the main character feels like an outsider, a monster, and a disgusting bear-beast. Comparing the book monster to the movie monster, I like the movie monster better, it makes it a little bit more “real” and depicts better how Kyle is in the inside. Also, I like better how the main character makes Lindy come to his place, again, it is more realistic. I think the author in this part lack a bit of imagination.

I also would like you say that I did smiled throughout the whole movie. The main character is such a sweet clumsy dork and one is able to see better how the character is beyond the mean bastard he was. Something else that I did not like much about the book is how he manages to make Lindy to fall in love for him. She pretty much just does fall for him, which is what Kyle is use to, but on the movie, he actually works it out proving that love just does not happen because.

I gave the book a three-star rating because it is interesting and does teach a little message to love for whom one is and not for what one looks like, but it could be a little bit more imaginative and a bit more mature, but it is a teenage book so, it does its trick for that age range.

Seems like you’d prefer the movie over the book if I read this correctly. Which is pretty interesting since it’s not something a bookworm easily says, haha. I’ve seen the movie a couple of times – I’m a sucker for retellings, okay? – and I’ve always loved it.
Now I just need to get my hands on a copy of the book so I can find out whether or not I might like the book better!

Hahaha it is not that hard to happen I think xD I think we just need to find peace and understand that books and movies are different medias with different elements 🙂 and a movie cannot be exactly the same as movie haha but I like some things more of the movie like the Beast of the movie is more “realistic” because I can see someone bring scared heavily than bearly 🐻 (hahaha so funny)

It’s not! Sometimes I honestly don’t get why some people make such a fuzz about a movie not being like the book. It only makes sense to me that they’d make adaptions so the story comes across better on screen. [Okay, cutting Peeves out of the Harry Potter movies is something I don’t agree on, but overall I don’t think they did a bad job at all, haha.]
And so true! When I saw the movie I immediately liked the scarred-spin they gave it. Seems much more real and natural. Especially since there are definitely plenty of people out there who’re scarred one way or another. Just goes to show that we shouldn’t degrade them based on their looks.

But bearly man do have.. a certain appeal?! Haha!

Totally, they have to remove things not as relevant! and add certain things that are only possible in our imagination 🙂 Yes, that is why I like it a bit more, it makes him more ugly and less fairy talesish 😀

        Yep, agreed!
I don’t know about more ugly though. I’d think I’d find him a bit more ugly if he’d been turned in some kind of hairy x-men-wannabe. :’) But that might be because I’m not into all that facial hair stuff, haha!
