I just want to let you know that this is clearly just my opinion… but I’ve had it! Officially! (My Goodreads review has some funny gifs.)

I heard “contemporary” as an adjective used for this book, but I will change that to “try hard”. I bought it, it was for $1.99 and a friend wanted to read it so bad, that I just 1-clicked on it! I read a few pages and I was not hooked. The main character is so annoying, honestly. I found it to be such an attempt of “A Cinderella Story”, where this love story started with anonymous usernames and interactions but gay… but freaking gay, such a plot twist… so much originality. I can’t look Simon and love it, he is just annoying, a little bitc… and the cynic topic is so worn already…

I am so into “Coming of Age” and YA (look at the books that I have read and reviewed) but this is just way to annoying, simple, predictable. It is not even funny, I have “laughed” twice and was a little line that said “fucking fuck” literally, and that was hilarious, but one laugh out of what? The 30% of the book? I think all of the “current” references are just a mere distraction. I think my problem is that I’d rather read, suspect, and to find out the references, than to read them on the title. I don’t find interesting people telling me things but make me find out the things myself. From my point of view, any character was interesting. There is always one character that will make you smile and will be this sweetie sweet sweet! But no, hell no. All of the characters were flat, boring, annoying, and honestly, Simon was just a complaining little bitc… For being so smart and sassy, how dared him to be blackmailed? Really? He had all the cards in his hand but no… Anyway, I guess that without that part of the story, the book would have not had sense… wait… it would have indeed. The only important part related to the blackmailing was the sharing of his sexual orientation but there could have been ways to do that more logical…

I get the point of the struggle, teenagers do not know who they are or want, and all that. A lot of people suffer that, I will not deny it. But really, can you find love because you have been emailing a guy for months and now you love him? What do you call that? Grindr? Tinder? Or any other application, it is the same concept… As I moved on with the reading, I did find out that #thestruggleisreal… then at the 65% of the book I said: Sweet baby Jesus! Finally something happened! Something that hooked me! And then what happened? You lost me. There is a line to follow, regular life, high school, the struggle, all mixed up with how spoiled and ungrateful the main character is. All this overreaction of his parents attitude and interests… Leah’s story… horrible flat and sour character. Nick did not develop a static character. No change in him at all. Abby? Well, she was kind of cool at the end. The rest are worthless to mention.

I knew who Blue was the very first moment he said “well, he is cute” and then BAM! He was… so predictable that happy ever after made by the gods and all that because life is just like that. Everything turns out well for everybody and nobody has to fight any more ‘cause life is just like that, isn’t it? I read it, and I tried to love it, but it just didn’t do anything to me. All the hollow jokes, references to FB, Adventure Time, Justin Bieber, and the obsession to mention the iPod every 4 pages… (this is an hyperbole, it does not happen that often but damn you read iPod and I think Apple payed for these ads…besides, who still has an iPod? (mine died T_T)) annoys me. It is so regular, simple, boring daily… This book could have been way better, but again, #choices and #justsaying…
