How do you work giveaways?

Hello book royalists!

I have a few questions because I want to understand better how certain things in the book blog community works… for example Giveaways!

Which tools do you use for a giveaway?

I have participated in a few giveaways, and I have never won any … but which tools do you do? Or through which social networks do you do it? Is Twitter the best way to do it? Or Instagram? or should I do a mix of WordPress, Instagram, Twitter? Is there any other web tool that can give better results?

How do you manage to engage people?

I have tried like once and I gave up haha but how do you manage to engage people? I have seen people with give-away tweets with 500 retweets and so, and I tried to do it and I got like 2 people participating… So, besides gifts, how do you make them participate?

What is better? cash or book gifts?

I have seen people giving books, a selection, of books, two or one books, a gift card and so on, which one will work better?

How do you pick a winner?

The hardest part of all, how do you pick one? What I mean is how you pick one and how you make them fair? I have seen people “adding” extra entries to your changes by following you everywhere, but how do you keep track?

If you have any tips, help me out here!

Thank you for reading!

I have nit hosted a giveaway, but to answer your last question… at my work we do prize draws, and we use an online tool to pick winners. You can google random name picker, that’s what i used at work. You enter all names, and it will pick one.

I saw people writing name of the signed up people on a paper put them all in a hat and then draw.

The online method is not so messy 😃

Yes… The online version seems better haha I have never considered googling that haha that is like the first thing to do in doubt xD
And I thought that picking a name will be hard if there are a lot of names… But let’s be realistic xD I will not make it to a huge number haha

    this is a cool discussion!
    1. First giveaway I hosted was on GR and there wee only 2 entries and it was bad, the second had over 50 where I used both GR and WordPress. Choose the platform where people interact with you most. Or use any platform and link to it through other platforms.

    2. Try to make people share the giveaway, for example to enter a giveaway they must retweet instead of liking it. Also try keeping it simple, people don’t want millions of rules to enter a giveaway.

    3. I prefer to give books of the winners choice, I prefer giving books to money but it doesn’t really matter!

4.I use an online random name picker, I even attach the screenshot for the winner so everything is clear 🙂

      Aaahhh!!!
      Uuhhh!
      1. Yes, it makes sense! I think I will do that… I will try to do a mix! What did you do with those 2 entries?
      2. Yes, I have seen those 7 bullets rules with a follow train and I just can’t… XD
      3. A price is a price I think… You are totally right! 🙂
      4. Which one? Haha

Thank you so much for this!!!

I tried to do 1 in FB but it didn’t work out haha and a follow train didn’t work either in Twitter xD am I invisible? Haha

        * I hosted the giveaway here and left a link on GR, you had to like the post on GR and that’s it, you could also comment (I asked about favorite books but it wasn’t obligatory).

        * Neither do I

        * 😀

I chose this one because it is wheel like and everyone gets the same chance, but I feel with column ones the firsst and last names do not get picked.

you’re welcome, just keep trying ^-^

These are the exact same questions I have! I’ll definitely keep an eye on the responses to this post, I’m a little lost on how giveaways work too – I would say that I think allowing people to pick a book within a certain price limit may work the best? That way you’re able to target to people who like all genres rather than selecting a book that appeals to only one audience. Just my opinion though. Thanks for writing this post!

That makes a lot of sense ! If I pick the books that will not work that much eh? What if you are not interested on those books? Hmm good point! I hope more people can help us here, right? Haha

I know that rafflecopter is a great tool to host giveaways! I used it on the one giveaway I hosted and posting the link on your blog as well as all your social media sites and giving a good amount of time for people to enter is great also. I think book of your choice giveaways are my favorites (I can’t help myself from entering them and when you win it’s like magic). Or even book of choice with a theme like poc or recently released or lgbtq+ books. Those always seem to get a lot of traction plus your supporting authors who are often marginalized voices as well!

Thank you very much for your help! I am so going back to this comments when the time comes! ❤

I only did giveaways on my blog so far and I used Rafflecopter. It’s really easy to set it up and you can pick a random winner when your giveaway is over, as well 🙂 I don’t know much about twitter giveaways, since I never hosted one, but using maybe some #bookgiveaway hashtags could work. Also, as for the prices, books obviously work better for book bloggers and more often than not, when you’re offering the book of their choice, that way they can pick whatever they prefer 🙂 x

awesome! I have participated in Rafflecopter! I just didn’t remember the name! It does seem easy to host one through them! Yes, I think like a price limit and you choose what you want is better than giving 5 books that people might not like and might not participate! 😮 I have gotten a lot of feedback from you all! thank you very much!!!

❤ ❤ ❤ I hope you all participate once I get to do it :3
