I am the kind of reader that is usually, not always, way behind the mainstream or the hype books. I was part of Book of the Month (affiliate link at the bottom, thank you!) and I saw this book and didn’t pick it… and I regret it so much! At my work, someone did a book club, we are all about the book clubs, and they picked this book!
“What a ride!” was my main reaction. A friend was so into the book that she skipped her bus stop twice in a week! Let’s do this by parts:
- The narration! I listened to the audiobook and it was incredibly good! A man and a woman! Both with British accents that drove me through this story!
- I was so into the narrative! I needed to know what happened, what was the mystery behind the story! The meaning of the drawing (which I still find a bit blurry because that was drawn before all crime), the resolution of the infidelity, and how and why the main character was so good to crack the mute of Alicia!
- For me, a good thriller/mystery/suspense story must have twists and turns! and Alex delivered this with an incredible level of speculation!
The presence of circumstantial events and of mental instability as plot elements were cleverly used for the plot twists! By navigating through the dark corners of the human mind and trauma, Alex takes the reader to multiple levels of criminal activity and poetic retribution!
No gaps left untied… all issues resolved!! Incredible and worth the hype!!
