Henry Heck became a legend through gossip and secrecy; however, Tommy McConnell, a new inmate in the Providence State Penitentiary, has set himself the task of breaking and resolving the mystery of the forever young prisoner. Through the narration of his adventures, while imprisoned, Tommy makes friends, has paranormal encounters, and finally earns his redemption and freedom.

In “The Forever Young Prisoner”, Marcus Lessard shares with us a story; an atypical story of paranormal events in a state penitentiary, and, as expected, Lessard crowds his story with peculiar and effervescent characters that twist and turn the plot in different directions for the enjoyment of the reader. The characters’ uniqueness and circumstances fuel a sense of comradeship and complicity toward the same purpose: discovering the truth of the mythical undying prisoner. Through hilarious and hysterical conversations, Lessard connects us deeply with Tommy and the rest of the State inmates through their journey.

Although the premise of the novel goes around the seeking of the truth, the story dwells idly in Tommy’s life and pedestrian life events that coincidentally happily connect with the main character and the truth hidden in the Tartarus of the Providence State Penitentiary. Although certain circumstances distract us from the novel’s overall focus, Marcus Lessard delivers a bookworm of a character that activates his creativity, imagination, and brain through high-caliber literary works that will play a role in the development of the novel and its secrets.

Unconventional, intriguing, and alluring, Marcus Lessard’s debut novel, “The Forever Young Prisoner,” promises to connect us with our deepest dreams. Through romance, thrilling adventures, and out-of-the-blue plot twists, Lessard delivers a message of resilience, justice, and family. Coming from a very personal place and leaving too much of himself, Marcus Lessard comes with force to stay on our shelves for the times to come.
