Since this is an ARC, the review will be a bit different, but as all my reviews, it has a little story.
This is my second ARC review? well, I before got a request from the author himself on checking out his book! (Sent for Life) so being part of #NetGalley made me feel good and that I was going to be a “Professional Reader”… but being honest, I am already a professional reader haha… or at least I tell myself that XD
Jeremy Cutler is a nice story of self-discovery and to make it more complicated he not only has to discover himself but also his magical past. I started this book with all the excitement of the world and I kept reading. The main character, Jeremy, is oblivious to the world that is hidden to mortal eyes, but despite other characters of other stories, he is happy to be part of it and to learn from it almost immediately. Here… all the crowns (stars/ratings) started to go down for me. He might be a bit perplex of what is going on but he is always curious and eager to learn which is a nice trait of the character, and he, for me, is not annoying like Harry Potter, let’s face it… he was a bit annoying…
Compared to other main characters, Jeremy is daredevil and is looking not only for his past but also wants to be a sword kind of hero. At the end, he is a kid and all kids want to be heroes and fight with swords… but war is a horrible game to play. Sadly to say, I see some things from other stories. A lot of similarities from Harry Potter, did you think it was a coincidence that I mentioned him before? well… no… There are some elements that we can say are “archetypes” but for me, they seem to be a sweet-imitation of the saga. Elements like the Old Loved Wizard… the Snakish nemesis and followers… the gang of dark hooted people that are looking to revive his old master… Harry’s oh… no no Jeremy’s bully which has the same DD name and last name… and it is so alike… besides this, the world created is a normal fantastic world with wizards and witches… past and present events covered with strong spells.
The story was good enough and believe it has potential to be something big and fantastic, but a few changes will need to be done… but that is just my humble and honest opinion. I wouldn’t recommend the novel.
So, the kingdom has given this book:
It seems that your majesty is not pleased and the knights have spoken!
